The Oakwood
Friday, June 8th, 2012
The Oakwood model house is Craftsman style single-story plan. It is laid out to provide an open living lifestyle with 3 bedrooms positioned in the rear half of a narrow profile. Attaching a garage to this home plan is a simple addition although it is designed for a narrow lot that would have a detached garage behind the house itself.
Oakwood was a name chosen for this house, as reminiscent of Arts and Crafts or Craftsman style homes, introduced in the early 20th Century as an American tradition, although the artistic concept originated in England. Oak is a wood species of choice for interior finishing in such a house, due to its durability and prominent graining patterns. Oakwood also turns out to be a name of the largest residential contractor in Denver, Colorado, Oakwood Homes; no doubt inspired by the same connotations as our own name choice.
